Canada Part 4 - Baie-Saint-Paul

Hello everyone,

Today is another step of our trip to Canada! On the way to Québec, we had stopped in Baie-Saint-Paul as it had been recommended to us and I must say it is worth it :)

As its name is suggesting, it situated on the sea side but its main characteristic is that has been welcoming artists since the beginning of the 20th century. The area of Charlevoix as a whole has actually inspired many Canadian artists and Baie-Saint-Paul is even the birthplace of the Cirque du Soleil.

Pour aujourd'hui je vous ai préparé un article sur une autre étape de notre voyage au Canada ! En chemin pour Québec, on s'est arrêté à Baie-Saint-Paul sur une recommendation et je dois dire que ça valait le coup :)
Comme le suggère son nom, cette ville est en bord de mer mais ce qui fait sa particularité est qu'elle a accueilli de nombreux artistes depuis le début du 20e siècle. La région de Charlevoix en général a inspiré de nombreux artistes canadiens et Baie-Saint-Paul est d'ailleurs l'endroit où est né le Cirque du Soleil.

We started by a quick walk on the sea front and then wandered around the streets with their cute houses. There are also lots of nice art galleries in the city centre! It is quite impressive! I especially liked the artists exhibited in Beauchamp art gallery such as Pierre Edouard Boucher, Gabrielle Dumont or Annie Labbé etc.
We then did a break in a really nice little coffee called Café Charlevoix which are roasting their own coffee. It is really cosy in there and the coffees are delicious :) When leaving it, I spotted across the street Le Mouton Noir, a restaurant that looked interesting! However, as we had to be in Québec before the evening, we didn't get the chance to try it. Another time maybe :)

On a commencé notre visite par une petite balade le long de la plage pour ensuite aller nous promener dans les rues de la ville avec ses jolies maisons. Il y a également pleins de chouettes galeries d'art dans le centre ville ! C'était assez impressionnant ! J'ai particulièrement aimé les artistes qui étaient exposés à la Galerie Beauchamp comme Pierre Edouard Boucher; Gabrielle Dumont ou encore Annie Labbé etc.
On s'est ensuite posé dans un petit café bien sympa : le Café Charlevoix qui font torréfier leur propre café. C'est très mignon à l'intérieur et les cafés sont délicieux :) En sortant, j'ai repéré de l'autre côté de la rue Le Mouton Noir, un restaurant qui avait l'air pas mal ! Mais comme nous devions reprendre la route pour arriver à Québec avant la nuit, nous n'avons pas eu l'occasion de le tester. Une prochaine fois peut être :)

Meeting Wanted Gina

Hello everyone,

This summer I took the opportunity of passing by Paris between trains to meet Clarisse, the founder and designer behind the French brand Wanted Gina. I first saw her creations on the blog Le Dressing de Leeloo and fell in love with them. I therefore wanted to share this discovery with you :)

We chatted about her adventure over a cup of tea in the Atelier Beau Travail where she has taken up residence. Worth mentioning that she is also sharing this space with a few other talented designers including Camille from Helmut who I will tell you more about another day!

Cet été, j'ai profité d'un passage par Paris entre deux trains pour rencontrer Clarisse, la fondatrice et créatrice derrière la marque française Wanted Gina. J'ai découvert ses créations grâce au blog Le Dressing de Leeloo et je suis tombée sous leur charme. J'ai donc voulu partager cette découverte avec vous :)

Nous avons discuté de son aventure autour d'un thé à l'Atelier Beau Travail où elle a établi ses quartiers. J'en profite pour mentionner qu'elle partage cet atelier avec plusieurs autres créatrices dont Camille de Helmut dont je vous parlerai plus en détail une autre fois !

How did you come up with the name Wanted Gina?

I had seen the play "Wanted Petula' and I found it quite attention catching, it is also a reference to my previous work life. I then looked for a first name that would work well with it. And here you go that is how Wanted Gina was born :)

Comment t'es venue l'idée d'appeler ta marque Wanted Gina ?

J'avais vu la pièce "Wanted Petula" et cette accroche m'a bien plu, et puis c'est également une référence à ma vie professionnelle d'avant. Ensuite j'ai cherché un prénom qui sonnerait bien avec. Et voilà, c'est comme ça qu'est né Wanted Gina :)

What is your story?
When I was younger, my grand mother taught me to sew and from then I was regularly sewing. Even though I was interested in fashion design, I actually went on studying law and art history. After my studies, I started working in theatre production for different companies until I joined "Les Grandes Personnes" which is creating shows with giant puppets. There, I rediscovered the pleasure of sewing and that is when I decided to create my brand.

Quel est ton parcours ?

Quand j'étais plus jeune, ma grand mère m'a appris à coudre et depuis je cousais régulièrement. Au final, malgré mon intérêt pour le stylisme, j'ai fait des études de droit et d'histoire de l'art. Après mes études, j'ai commencé à travailler dans la production théâtrale pour différentes compagnies jusqu'à ce que je rejoigne "Les Grandes Personnes" qui crée des spectacles avec des marionnettes géantes. C'est là que j'ai redécouvert le plaisir de coudre et que j'ai décidé de me lancer dans l'aventure.

What is Wanted Gina philosophy?

Wanted Gina is all about limited production collections with beautiful cuts and high quality materials. All my designs are original and each piece of clothing is handmade in France with fabrics sourced from France and Italy.

La philosophie Wanted Gina c'est des collections en production limitée avec de belles coupes et des matières de qualité. Tous mes modèles sont originaux et chaque vêtement est fait main en France avec des tissus venant de France et d'Italie.

How do you create your collections?
Je commence généralement le processus de création en écoutant de la musique et en préparant des planches d'images. chaque saison, mes sources d'inspiration sont différentes et l'on peut d'ailleurs le voir à travers mes collections qui sont plutôt versatiles. La collection Printemps / Été 2015 a été créée en écoutant Lana Del Rey et après avoir vu l'expo Bill Viola au Grand Palais l'été dernier, ce qui a donné une ligne de vêtements aux couleurs pastel. D'un autre côté pour la collection de cet hiver, j'ai été inspirée par les années 90 et une esthétique noir et blanc. J'ai écouté The Strokes ainsi que d'autres groupes rock indépendants pendant cette période ce qui explique probablement le côté rock de la collection automne / hiver 2015.

Comment crées-tu tes collections ?

I usually start the creation process by listening to music and putting together mood boards. Every season, my inspiration sources are different and you can actually see it in my collections which are quite versatile. The 2015 Spring/Summer collection has been created listening to Lana Del Rey and was started after I had seen Bill Viola exhibition at the Grand Palais last summer which has led to a feminine range of clothes in pastel colours. On the other hand for this winter, I was really inspired by the nineties and a black and white aesthetic. I listened to The Strokes and other independent rock bands which is probably why you will find this rock edge to the 2015 Autumn/Winter collection.

At the time we met, the Autumn/Winter collection had not been revealed yet so you will only find pictures of pieces from her spring/summer collection whose last ones can still be found one sale here. Check out her e-shop to discover her new collection!

Back to school!

Hello everyone!

School has just started again and things are slowly starting to go back to business as usual as summer is drifting away. Even the weather is getting gloomier here in London (I still hope we will get an Indian summer though :))...

For today, I thought I would share with you a back-to-school look mixing casual pieces with a smart jacket. This is an outfit I usually wear to go to work.

Ça y est, c'est la rentrée et les choses reprennent peu à peu leur cours à mesure que l'été s'efface. Le temps aussi devient plus mitigé sur Londres (j'espère que l'on aura tout de même un été indien :))...
Pour aujourd'hui, je vous propose un look de rentrée mélangeant des pièces casual avec une veste plus habillée. C'est une tenue que je porte généralement pour aller au travail.

I have put together Gap bootcut jeans, Converse shoes I had bought in an outlet store in US, a Hello Jonesie tee-shirt and a H&M jacket.
Hello Jonesie is a brand of hand-stitched tops that has been recently launched by a young american girl. Amy, who has been living in Paris for a few years, is embroidering all her creations! You can find some really cool designs on her website that you can get embroidered on basic coton tee-shirts and sweat-shirts. My favourite ones are the watermelon, the bicycle and the origami like fish ; you can also choose to get a few words stitched.
I got in touch with Amy during her crowdfunding campaign to get a custom tee-shirt made and chose to get the English idiom "Excuse my French" :)

I have accessorised this outfit with a Cop Copine belt (I love its buckle which reminds me of a lego brick), a white mini Cambridge Satchel bag (you know by now how much I love this brand :)) and finally a Maison Guillemette necklace which can also be worn as a bracelet or headband!

J'ai associé ensemble un jean Gap évasé, des Converses que j'avais achetées dans un magasin d'usine aux US, un tee-shirt Hello Jonesie et une veste H&M.
Hello Jonesie est une marque de tops brodés, créée par une jeune américaine. Amy, qui habite à Paris depuis plusieurs années, brode toutes ses créations ! Vous pouvez trouver plein de motifs sympas sur son site qui peuvent être brodés sur des tee-shirts et sweat-shirts en coton. Mes préférés sont la pastèque, le vélo et le poisson façon origami ; vous pouvez également choisir de faire broder quelques mots.
J'ai pris contact avec Amy pendant sa campagne de financement participatif pour réaliser un tee-shirt personnalisé et j'ai choisi l'expression anglaise "Excuse my French" (utilisée lorsque l'on prononce une injure) :)

J'ai accessoirisé ma tenue avec une ceinture Cop Copine (j'adore sa boucle qui me rappelle une brique de lego), un mini sac Cambridge Satchel (vous savez comme j'affectionne particulièrement cette marque :)) et enfin un collier Maison Guillemette qui peut aussi être porté comme bracelet ou headband !

We had taken these pictures when we went for lunch in Islington to The Little Viet Kitchen which I had told you about here. As the weather was sunny although quite windy, we had taken this opportunity to wander in the area of Chapel Market.

On a pris ces photos quand nous étions allés à Islington pour un déjeuner chez The Little Viet Kitchen dont je vous avais parlé ici. Comme le temps était plutôt ensoleillé même si le vent était bien présent, on en a profité pour se balader aux alentours de Chapel Market.
